Vera Knook is a hydraulic engineer turned river conservationist dedicated to protecting free-flowing rivers. She founded the River Collective in 2020, a non-profit that unites scientists, artists, and activists to advance river protection worldwide. Vera develops innovative educational initiatives, including the Students for Rivers Camp, which recently brought students on an immersive expedition along Peru’s Marañón River and will next turn knowledge into action for Colombia’s Samaná River. Her commitment is rooted in years of exploring threatened rivers as a whitewater kayaker in Nepal, New Zealand, Peru, and across Europe.
