Madeira Ocean Scientific Expedition 2026
The Madeira Ocean Scientific Expedition 2026 will take place throughout October, exploring the coastal and pelagic ecosystems around Madeira, Porto Santo and the Desertas Islands. Bringing together regional, national and international scientific teams, the expedition will use a range of scientific methods to study marine ecosystems and species, helping to strengthen the scientific knowledge needed to support the assessment and future expansion of Madeira’s network of Marine Protected Areas.
During this livestream, students will go on board the Santa Maria Manuela and get a closer look at what happens during a real scientific expedition at sea. They will discover how scientists collect data and samples, explore some of the methods and equipment used during the expedition, and have the opportunity to meet the scientists on board and ask them questions about their work and the marine environment of Madeira.
