Join the team from the Around the Americas Expedition with guest Roxanne Nanninga, an ocean sustainability expert who has spent over 15 years working to protect marine ecosystems and support the people who depend on them for food and livelihoods. She began this journey as the onboard educator for the original Around the Americas expedition in 2010, where she helped share stories from the ocean with students in the communities they visited. Since then, her career has focused on improving seafood systems—both fisheries to aquaculture—working with companies, nonprofits, and global partners to build a more sustainable and resilient ocean food future.
Roxanne will talk about where over half of the seafood we eat today comes from. In this interactive session, students will explore how we can grow food in the ocean—like seaweed and shellfish—while also protecting wild fish and marine ecosystems. Join us to discover how science, innovation, and everyday choices can help build a healthy ocean and a well-fed planet.
