Hong Kong is a hub for the illegal wildlife trade, each year over 800 million dollars worth of trafficked wildlife is seized. We often think about the animals, but forget about the plants and trees that are illegally trafficked as well. Uva Fung researches the illegal harvesting of incense trees (Aquilaria sinensis), a tree species that is native to southern China but is threatened by illegal harvesting and smuggling. She’ll share the impact of illegal tree harvesting in Hong Kong and how our genetic research has led to prosecution of several illegal harvesters.
