Life at the lighthouse: Exploring Petite Île au Marteau

Description

Life at the lighthouse: Exploring Petite Île au Marteau

Join us on Petite Île au Marteau, in the Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve. Step into the lives of lighthouse keepers who once called this remote island home, and discover over a century of maritime history that helped guide sailors safely in the Gulf of Saint-Lawrence.

Explore historic buildings—including the keeper’s house, foghorn building, and island classroom—as we uncover stories of shipwrecks, survival, and life as a family on the island. This immersive experience shines a light on a vital chapter of Canadian cultural heritage, preserved by Parks Canada for all to explore and protect.
