Earth Day 2026
Join us on Earth Day as we take students on a journey of exploration across the planet. We’ll have live lessons from each of the 7 continents as well as out on the ocean. There might even be another special surprise to share throughout the day!
Antarctica
Join us as we travel to the U.S. National Science Foundation-funded IceCube Neutrino Observatory at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station in Antarctica! We’ll meet their winterovers, individuals who brave the unforgiving environment to spend a year—sometimes longer—at the South Pole, half of which is enveloped in complete darkness. Every year, two winterovers are selected and sent to the South Pole to operate and maintain the IceCube detector. Learn what it’s like to live and work in one of the most extreme and remote places on our planet!
Europe
Africa
Join us for a live safari with African Parks in Malawi! Majete Wildlife Reserve, covering approximately 700 square kilometres in Malawi’s south west, is a mosaic of undulating hills, grassy plains, and mixed woodlands punctuated by star chestnut and mahogany trees. Anchored by the Shire River, its varied terrain supports a rich tapestry of life. Originally gazetted in the 1950s, today, Majete is a revitalised space of biodiversity, with good populations of elephant, lion, giraffe, and African wild dog, alongside sable antelope, kudu, and Lichtenstein’s hartebeest. Its rich avifauna includes the African pitta and racket-tailed roller.
Who knows what we’ll see as we explore the biodiversity of Majete Wildlife Reserve!
Asia
Hong Kong is a hub for the illegal wildlife trade, each year over 800 million dollars worth of trafficked wildlife is seized. We often think about the animals, but forget about the plants and trees that are illegally trafficked as well. Uva Fung researches the illegal harvesting of incense trees (Aquilaria sinensis), a tree species that is native to southern China but is threatened by illegal harvesting and smuggling. She’ll share the impact of illegal tree harvesting in Hong Kong and how our genetic research has led to prosecution of several illegal harvesters.
North America
Join us live from the Toucan Rescue Ranch in Costa Rica!!! We’ll learn all about the two and three fingered sloths, toucans, parrots and more, while meeting some of the incredible animals that call the ranch home. At TRR they have focused on care, rehabilitation, and release of national wildlife since 2004. TRR provides sanctuary while giving treatment, rehabilitation, and when possible, release to their natural environment. They specialize in toucans, sloths, and owls, however, we have a large array of wildlife from weasels, porcupines, cats, kinkajous, parrots, and so forth.
Ocean/Arctic
Join us as we continue our globe spanning Earth Day lessons with a trip to the Arctic, with the special bonus of being out on the ocean! Paige Maroni is embarking on a research ship to shed some light on the deep-sea in the Arctic region. She is a polar and deep-sea biologist whose work is expanding what is possible in some of Earth’s most remote and least accessible marine environments. Her discoveries on hadal amphipods, abyssal snailfish, Antarctic invertebrates, and Arctic ecosystems reflect her belief that exploration carries a responsibility: to seek understanding, to return with knowledge, and to share it openly. She is the co-founder and director of Polar BLAST, a research initiative that transforms vessels of opportunity into platforms for Arctic and Antarctic exploration uniting advanced subsea technology with species discovery, policy engagement, and public outreach.
South America
Rosamira is a Colombian landscape architect and environmental designer-turned-conservationist. She co-founded and is now executive director of Fundación Proyecto Tití, an organization dedicated to the protection and conservation of one of Colombia’s most endangered native primate species: the cotton-top tamarin. Cotton-top tamarins are one-pound monkeys, only found in the tropical forests of northwest Colombia in South America. They are severely threatened by deforestation and by their capture for the illegal pet trade of wildlife species. Rosmira has made it her mission to secure a future for these cute, crazy-hair little primates.
Australia
Vanessa is a wildlife reseacher, science communicator and woman in STEM. Her zoological background has taken her around the world for wildlife research. She is pioneering the use of emerging technologies for whale conservation. Her whale research has taken her to places like the Galapagos, Madagascar, Antarctica and Tonga. In her home country of Australia, she’s using drones in unique and creative ways to assess whale health as they move through the environment in a non invasive way. She’s flying drones through whale spray rising from a whale’s blowhole to collect samples of whale ‘snot’ to learn all kinds of biological information like DNA, hormones and bacteria. This gives us unprecedented insight into marine health in ways we never imagined!
