Daily Dive # 088 | Exploring Aquatic Biodiversity of Kenya’s Mara River

Meet Josua Benjamin, he’s a PhD student at the University of Florida. His focus in on freshwater biodiversity, particularly on macroinvertebrates (the small insect larva, snail, clams, etc) found in rivers. By sampling fish, macroinvertebrates, water and sediments, he’s working to get a clear picture of the health of Kenya’s famed Mara River.

Dig Deeper: The Great Migration happens in Kenya and Tanzania each year, when millions of herbivores migrate. Which species are most numerous in the migration? Where are they moving between? The Mara River crossing is a dangerous obstacle for them, why?
