Description

Daily Dive # 007 | Finding a 319 Million Year Old Fossilized Brain

Meet Rodrigo Tinoco Figueroa, he’s a doctoral student at the University of Michigan’s Museum of Paleontology. Scanning the skull of a 319-million-year-old fossilized fish, has led to the discovery of the oldest example of a well-preserved vertebrate (animal with a backbone) brain.

Dig Deeper: It’s not easy to become a fossil, the location and conditions had to be just right where an ancient plant or animal died. Research the process that has to occur for a fossil to form.
