Barbara Frei is a research scientist at Environment and Climate Change Canada. Her team is dedicated to providing the science we need for the cities we want in the future, including making them bird-friendly! With 80% of birds in Canada being migratory, almost any bird can be a ‘city bird’ as they pass through populated areas at least twice a year. To learn more about our feathered friends and where they go, she uses innovative technology such as song recognition algorithms, tiny nanotag backpacks, and more. Her team also tries to find what are the win-wins for conservation, aka how we can manage our cities to be good for people AND nature!
