Around the Americas: Bats at the Edge of the World

Description

Around the Americas: Bats at the Edge of the World

Join the Around the Americas Expedition and our special guest, Xenabeth Lázaro, also known as “bat girl” or “bat warrior”. She’s a bat ecologist and conservationist specializing in sub-Antarctic bats, the southernmost bats on the planet! She is a recipient of the 2024 UNESCO Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Young Scientist award and is currently pioneering bat research at the end of the world to better understand how bats are capable of living in extreme conditions and protect them in the face of a changing environment. She will be presenting on an expedition to the southernmost forested islands before Antarctica, the Cape Horn archipelago, in search of the presence of bats to identify species and understand their habitat limits.
