In this presentation, students will dive into the remarkable world of kelp forests. We will explore what kelp is—from holdfast to blade—where kelp forests grow, and why these underwater habitats are so important for marine life and people. Students will also learn about kelp aquaculture and its many uses. We will then travel to the Gulf of Maine to discover the history of its kelp forests, the threats they face, and how scientists and communities are working to restore them. The presentation will conclude with an inspiring restoration story showing that, with a little kelp from our friends, ocean recovery is possible.
