Biodiversity Field Work Live From the Newfoundland Coast

Description

Biodiversity Field Work Live From the Newfoundland Coast

Join us live in the field with Dr. Bob Gregory and his team as they use beach seine nets to catch, identify, count, and measure juvenile fish in nursery habitat in Newman Sound. They will use these data to measure survival young fish over the winter in coastal Newfoundland, Canada. These numbers are important to determine health of cod, flounder, and hake populations in the coastal zone and also in the offshore.

Bob is a Research Scientist in the Environmental Sciences Division of Fisheries and Oceans Canada in St. John’s Newfoundland Canada and an Adjunct Professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He has conducted research on fish nursery habitats for over 40 years. He investigates habitat–population linkages, juvenile fish survival, fish movement and human impacts environmental change.
