Description

Daily Dive # 126 | Meet The Earth Prize Finalists Biotex

Meet Amrita Ghag, Beatrice Milasan and Opemipo Oduntan, they are part of a team that was one of last year’s finalists for The Earth Prize. They created Biotex, a plan to take cotton waste from Dandora Dump in Kenya, run it through a bioreactor and create products for sustainable energy development.

The Earth Prize is the world’s largest environmental competition and ‘ideas incubator’ for young people, empowering 13-19 year olds with mentorship and $100K funding. Since 2021, the prize has reached over 10,000 young people, across 154 countries and territories, having awarded $500K (and counting) so far to the top teams.

Dig Deeper: What is a bioreactor and what are some products they are used to produce? Just how big is Dandora dump in Kenya?

EBTSOYP Daily Dives take students on a trip to the frontlines of science, exploration, conservation, and adventure to learn about the newest discoveries, conservation stories, expeditions, and more. Each school day @ 8:00am eastern, we release a new 5-7 minute video along with a 5 minute minds on activity for students.
