Making it Easier to Explore Our Ocean with Jessica Sandoval

Description

Making it Easier to Explore Our Ocean with Jessica Sandoval

Dive into the mysterious world of ocean exploration. We’ll review some of the ways we currently explore our deep oceans, during which Jessica will highlight some example videos from expeditions she ahs worked on with remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). However, most of these solutions that we currently use to explore the deep ocean are very expensive. We’ll explore how we can develop low-cost alternatives to these high-cost solutions to better understand our oceans (some of these solutions students can even work on in their own classrooms). The main takeaway from this presentation is to highlight the exciting opportunities that there are in deep-sea technology and how students can get involved.

Jessica is an ocean explorer, engineer, and science nut! Working in ocean exploration has taken her all across the world to amazing sites, including sunken ships and hydrothermal vents! When at sea, she works as a pilot of ROVs (8 years). On land, she works on interesting ocean engineering problems, including how to make ocean exploration more accessible to a broader global community.
