Description

Daily Dive # 064 | A Glowing Relationship Between Hawaiian Bobtail Squid and Bacteria

Meet Hannah Osland, she’s a graduate student at Alaska Pacific University. She’s studying the Hawaiian Bobtail Squid and the symbiotic relationship they have with bacteria (Vibrio fischeri). Studying this relationship could help us better understand the relationships we have with bacteria in our bodies.

Dig Deeper: Hawaiian Bobtail Squid use bacteria to help them disappear from the view of predators. Penguins use something called countershading. Explain what this is and how this makes it difficult for predators to spot penguins from above our below as they swim.
